The Internet Privacy Unit monitors companies to ensure they are in compliance with state and federal consumer protection laws, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which, in most cases, restricts companies from collecting personal information of children under 13 years old. The Unit also examines weaknesses in online privacy policies and work alongside major industry stakeholders and privacy advocates to provide outreach and education to businesses and consumers to broaden awareness about privacy rights so they are more equipped to manage online privacy challenges.

Michigan Cyber-Command Center (MC3)
The Michigan Cyber-Command Center is directed by the Michigan State Police from within the stateÕs Emergency Operations Center. The cyber-command is staffed by a select group of skilled public and private professionals who are highly trained in emergency response to cyber-events. When activated after a security threat, the command is tasked with restoring computer systems and minimizing damage, as well as deploying rapid-response teams that help secure networks in addition to their aid in the development of training standards.
Michigan State Police – Comupter Crimes Unit
The CCU provides investigative support in the seizure, acquisition, and analysis of digital evidence including digital device forensic examinations for the law enforcement community. It also oversees the Michigan ICAC.
Regional Enforcement Allied Computer Team (REACT)
The REACT Task Force is a diversified partnership of local, state, and federal agencies formed in cooperation with private industry to combat the escalating problem of high technology crime and the threat it poses to the health and welfare of our public and private communities. REACT conducts multi-jurisdictional investigations; to increase the recovery rate of stolen high technology, minimize those victimized by identity theft, and hold those responsible accountable.
Northern California Computer Crimes Task Force
NC3TF is responsible for the investigation, apprehension of the responsible and the recovery of stolen property for computer related crimes, child porn, money laundering, and identity theft.
Orange County Sheriff High Tech Services Reserve Unit
Members of the High Tech Services Reserve Unit are made up of a combination of highly specialized individuals who are recognized as industry experts. They cover a wide range of topics and are well versed in their areas of expertise. Areas covered by this unit are: videography, still photography (film and digital format), database design, website development, Internet Safety presentations and assistance with computer crimes when called upon.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department – Sacramento Valley Hi Tech Crimes Task Force
The mission of the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force is multi-jurisdictional investigations; tracking and disruption of commerce involving stolen goods; and investigation and prosecution of those engaged and participating in white-collar crime, organized crime, crimes against persons, and fraud when high technology or identity theft is a factor.
San Diego County Sheriff’s Department – Computer And Technology Crime High Tech Response Team (CATCH)
CATCH is a multi-agency task force that apprehends and prosecutes criminals who use technology to prey on citizens. CATCH was formed combining local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies from San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties. CATCH cases are vertically prosecuted meaning the same prosecutor handles the case from start to finish. Cooperation between CATCH, other high-tech task forces, and the private sector industry is critical to the success of combating high-tech crimes.
Los Angeles Police Department – Computer Crimes Unit
The Computer Crimes Unit handles cyber crimes that include Unlawful Computer Access, Hacking, Theft of Data, Network Intrusion, Denial of Service Attacks, and the more complex and/or high dollar value Internet fraud cases (Over $10,000). CCU is responsible for all digital forensics within the Los Angeles Police Department and the Digital Forensics Team also works with the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force.
Colorado Department of Public Safety – Colorado Bureau of Investigation
CBI investigates and responds to cyber crimes in cooperation and coordination with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. CBI also prepares annual reports concerning cyber crimes in Colorado for use by local and federal law enforcement officials and by ColoradoÕs governor. CBI can respond only at the specific request of a police department, sheriff’s’ office or district attorneys’ office.
